Snow

Working during severe weather - briefing for all managers

With snow hitting most areas of the country you and your teams may have found it difficult, if not impossible to get to work. Whether you are office based or field based its important to stay safe, don’t take any unnecessary risks. Please keep your manager informed about any problems you have travelling to and from work.

If your team is office based some of them may be able to work from home. If people don’t have a laptop they can make use of 'My BT'  from a non BT computer.

If your team is field based and unable to carry out their normal duties, first off talk to your manager and control and see what customer work (online or offline) could be done. Other things you and the team should be looking to do;

Checking if the Control have any faults that are within reasonable walking distance
Walking to colleagues nearby and working as a two man team
Again, if people can walk to their local TEC or Exchange, they could help to clear the snow from access roads
Order stores
Completing any CBT safety training planned for the year as well as any other, this could also include any other CBT training that needs doing.
Catch up on e-mails
Do some housekeeping on laptops – e.g. do any Radia Connect updates that are needed, tidy up e-mail and folders
Tidy their van
Attend a team meeting (via conference call)
Consider taking leave

Other things to note;
If anyone is unable to work from home or get to a BT Building they will need to discuss with you as their line manager.
As line managers Special Leave can be given at your discretion for things like childcare following school closures, or other urgent domestic situations related to the weather conditions.
And finally – think about using the technology – any meetings you have planned in can be done by audio or live meeting if needed.
